Unseen x Art Rotterdam

Intervalle and Julien Mignot presented the very first pieces from the Screenlove series in the Netherlands during UNSEEN 2018. The reception there was fantastic.
We are very happy and excited to return to UNSEEN in March 2026 with new pieces from the series in a solo show dedicated to Screenlove.
Screenlove explores the fragility of digital relationships while examining our contemporary relationship with voyeurism. In the 1990s, as a teenager living on the top floor of his family’s home, Julien Mignot spent long hours watching his neighbors through the window. Today, he recognizes this formative practice as one of the sources of his curiosity and his artistic vision.
Now an established portrait photographer, he extends this fascination with the intimate by connecting—with their consent—to his subjects’ webcams. There, he captures blurred images, fragments of lives altered by the mediation of the screen.
These visions are then sealed within a translucent block measuring 18 × 27 × 5.5 cm, a material and symbolic echo of the window from his adolescence. Trapped within the material, the image either hides or reveals itself depending on the viewing angle, engaging the viewer in a game of partial unveiling.
The monolith conveys both the artist’s solitude and anticipation—alone before her screen after fleeting exchanges with strangers scattered across the globe—and a broader reflection on voyeurism in the digital age. In an age when we no longer take the time to truly look out the window, the installation reverses the roles: faced with a work that is both spectacular and elusive, the visitor in turn becomes a voyeur, seeking the right stance and that suspended moment when the image finally consents to reveal itself.
