After receiving the prestigious Hariban Award in 2015, Cairns continued to create collotypes with the renowned Benrido Studio in Kyoto, Japan. The LDN4 Collotype Portfolio consists of 10 collotypes printed on traditional Japanese Echizen Gampi white paper, combining contemporary artistic innovation with ancient craftsmanship. The series is inspired by his nocturnal explorations of London, one of the cities that fuels his imagination. His approach is unique: he shoots on black & white 35mm film and then transforms the negatives into positives, creating one of the many layers of abstraction characteristic of his working method. Each work is accompanied by its original glass plate, offering collectors a unique experience: a dialogue between the artisanal object and the printed image.
