The Intervalle Gallery is very pleased to participate for the fourth time in the Parisian fair dedicated to experimental photography. As part of the Lucas Leffler PICTO LAB / EXPERIMENTING WITH IMAGES residency, the gallery is exhibiting his work on the technological and industrial transition that the photography sector underwent in the late 2000s, with a particular focus on 2007.

A pivotal year: 2007 saw the collapse of the film industry. Several Kodak factories closed, including those in Rochester (USA) and Châlon-sur-Saône (France)—a historic shift that Lucas Leffler explores in Implosion K Rochester (2022). That same year, the launch of Apple’s first iPhone marked the digital turning point: the device that has since captured the greatest number of photographic images.

In this exhibition, Lucas Leffler presents the prototype of the Implosion series, which he subsequently developed over the following years with some twenty larger-scale works.

The project thus explores the technological obsolescence of the photographic medium, looking back at a period when the evolution of tools reshaped the production of images far more than their use. Lucas Leffler is sponsored for this photography residency by Galerie Intervalle.
