Antony Cairns, Lucas Leffler, Jean-Vincent Simonet
After two previous participations, Intervalle is taking part in the main section for the first time and, at booth D19, is presenting a focused selection centered on a curatorial approach devoted to fine art photography: a confirmed shift in which materiality once again becomes the driving force behind the image. Far from merely serving a representational function, the works on display bring to the forefront gestures, surfaces, processes, and the uniqueness of the prints, which are often conceived as one-of-a-kind objects.
Three artists are featured in this presentation: Lucas Leffler, whose images challenge visual codes through a deliberate emphasis on materiality; Jean-Vincent Simonet, who explores “fakes” and synthetic colors through an experimental technique, creating altered photographs that seem permeated by the material itself; and Antony Cairns, whose approach extends the question of reality through retrofuturistic interventions that shift the image into the realm of sculpture.
This edition in the main exhibition area thus marks a turning point: exploring photography as a hybrid practice, where each work—conceived to be experienced—becomes irreplaceable.
