Corpus

Guillaume Delleuse, born in 1986, is a photographer and visual artist. A graduate of the Marseille School of Fine Arts and the National School of Photography in Arles, he gained recognition at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2016, where he presented an initial excerpt from Corpus. His work explores the relationships between the body, the skin, religion, and urban space.

In Corpus, Delleuse photographs the body up close, on the street, in direct contact with his subjects. He favors an instinctive, head-on approach, often using a flash. Faces sometimes disappear behind a tight frame; an arm, a back, a hand, or a patch of skin becomes the subject of the image. The bodies are captured in unstable positions, cropped by the frame, or set against the architecture and elements of the street. These choices lend the photographs an immediate tension—somewhere between observation and confrontation—where reality sometimes seems to tip into abstraction. In late 2016, with the support of Leica France, Delleuse continued this exploration during a residency at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York.
