Biography

Caroline Corbasson

Born in 1989 and based in Paris, Caroline Corbasson explores the place of man in the universe through the prism of scientific and collective imaginations associated with astrophysics and cosmology. Her research questions the ambivalent nature of human knowledge and the way in which scientific discoveries have renewed our apprehension of the cosmos, of space-time and the understanding of our origins. At the border between metaphysics and science, she scrutinizes the distance between the scientific observation of space and the immediate observation of the sky, from which our cosmic representations, often imbued with fantasy, derive. To represent the movements of celestial bodies, Caroline Corbasson uses silver photography, charcoal drawing as well as digital enlargement made possible by the electron microscope, making the link between the archaism of the mineral and the sophisticated technologies. Oscillating between a quasi-scientific and documentary approach, and a sensitive quest, she weaves in her work multiple correspondences between the infinitely large, whose evolution goes back to an ante-cultural period, and the infinitely small, the molecular scale made perceptible by scientific instruments. She thus draws our attention to the existence of entities and phenomena of such vast or infinitesimal space and time that they baffle our understanding. Her collaborations with renowned national and international scientific institutions (CNRS; CNES in Paris; Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille; Paranal Observatory in Chile) allow her to immerse herself in the daily life of these high places of scientific study in order to capture their singular atmosphere. Experimental, the films made during these immersions invite us to go beyond an anthropocentric perspective by opening ourselves to the multiple connections between perception, scale, space and time.
Andrea Montano

Born in 1990 in Paris, Andrea Montano has been developing for several years a sensitive and determined photographic work. The characteristic sobriety of his images and his demanding compositions reveal with meticulousness his recurring obsessions such as hands, suspended time, the grace of a face and of nature. In 2016, his first solo exhibition, Togo, testified to his precise view of the world and his ability to turn an everyday scene into a universal symbol. Today his work is developing in art, press and fashion.
