Inspiré par la littérature d'anticipation de la fin du XXe siècle, Antony Cairns capture ses images avec un appareil 35 mm argentique noir et blanc, inversant les négatifs en positifs uniques. Il numérise ces clichés pour les imprimer sur des supports obsolètes : cartes mémoire cartonnées IBM des années 1960-70, aux teintes pastel. Ce procédé transforme les paysages urbains familiers en visions quasi surnaturelles. Entre document et fiction, son travail esquisse une ville futuriste, héritière des métropoles actuelles. Comme Eugène Atget documentant le vieux Paris, Cairns révèle une cité trouble et visionnaire, suspendue entre réalité et imaginaire collectif.
