In 2019, Intervalle participated in Paris Photo’s Curiosa section with Elsa Leydier, whose work explores the power of images in shaping perceptions of specific territories. While living in Brazil at the time, the artist subverts idealized representations of landscapes and territories to reveal, behind their apparent allure, underlying social and environmental issues. This participation took on special significance when Elsa Leydier was awarded the 2019 Maison Ruinart / Paris Photo Prize during that edition. Invited to continue her research during a residency in Champagne, she created Heatwave, an experimental body of work dedicated to light and the effects of climate change, presented concurrently at the Grand Palais. Elsa Leydier’s participation in Curiosa and her receipt of the Ruinart Prize thus mark Intervalle’s involvement as a pivotal moment in the recognition of the artist’s work, which lies at the intersection of contemporary photography, experimentation, and environmental issues.
