Alain Laboile
Alain Laboile, born in 1968 in Bordeaux, is a photographer and artistic metalworker. In 2007, as the father of six children, he began photographing his family’s daily life. Self-taught, he has been developing—from his home-studio, located in a natural setting in the south of France—a deeply intimate body of work in which childhood becomes a realm of freedom.
Presented at Galerie Intervalle in 2015, “La Tribu” brings together photographs taken over the years of his children. Without staging anything, Alain Laboile observes them as they play, explore, and go about their daily lives. The house, the garden, the woods, the pond, and the fields become the settings for a world of its own, where time seems to stand still.
His images, primarily in black and white, capture bodies in motion, spontaneous gestures, sometimes boisterous play, and moments of calm. Nudity appears naturally, as an integral part of childhood and family life, without ever being the subject in and of itself.
Going beyond the family photo album, “La Tribu” thus constructs a universal vision of childhood: a free, physical, and instinctive world, where the imagination transforms every space of daily life into a playground for adventure.
