Julien Mauve
Julien Mauve, born in 1984, is a French visual artist based in Paris. His work, which straddles the boundaries of photography and film, explores humanity’s relationship with its environment, technology, and the upheavals that are shaping our future. A recipient of the Sony World Photography Award in 2016, among other honors, he creates series structured like narratives, in which the image oscillates between reality and fiction.
Presented at Galerie Intervalle in 2016, Les Mondes silencieux brings together images taken in landscapes where human presence seems to have vanished. Roads, homes, and buildings appear isolated in silent spaces, like the remnants of a familiar world that has become foreign. Julien Mauve thus crafts a vision of our environment that is at once contemplative and unsettling, where light, absence, and silence become the elements of an open-ended narrative. Behind these landscapes lies a reflection on our relationship to the world and on what it might become when humanity ceases to be its center.
