Through his constant practice of experimentation in the darkroom with silver salts, Lucas Leffler explores the properties and meaning of this specific element related to the photographic medium. Crescent is a speculative investigation into the scientific and esoteric significance of silver. Motivated by a fascination with the materiality of chemistry and minerals, this work aims to reveal this bivalent nature, similar to the photographic process, between science and magic. Silver not only makes the creation of a photographic image possible, it is also an element loaded with symbolic meanings. Aware of these potentialities, Lucas Leffler travels the world in search of sites where metal grows on the earth under the influence of the moon. He reproduces alchemical experiments of silver synthesis from the effect of moonlight.
