Une sélection de Polaroids de la série Le Pain sera exposée à Paris Photo 2025. La série complète sera disponible sur demande pendant la foire. Dans les langues romanes, le pain évoque la vie et le désir, mais en anglais le mot pain renvoie à la douleur. Cette ambivalence rappelle à l’artiste Marianne Maric la scène paroxystique et scandaleuse du film culte La Grande Bouffe de Marco Ferreri (1973), avec Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret et Andréa Ferréol, où la nourriture devient symbole de désir, de décadence et de dépassement des limites. Le film remporta le « Prix de la critique internationale » au Festival de Cannes 1973. L'artiste détourne cette référence, transformant le pain en objet érotique et quotidien, et faisant de chaque instant photographié une métaphore du corps en excès et en liberté. Par cette série, Marianne Maric continue son dialogue avec l’histoire de l’art, réinventant les icônes classiques, Vénus, Madones, ou Vierges, dans une esthétique où l’engagement performatif du modèle devient un vecteur de pouvoir, d’humour et de transgression. « Le Pain » n’est pas seulement une image : c’est une action, un rituel, une célébration du corps féminin libre et souverain, rendant honneur à Andréa Ferréol, actrice de cette scène, à qui Marianne Maric redonne puissance et émancipation.
