Inspiré par Chromatic Algorithms de Carolyn L. Kane, Jean-Vincent Simonet explore la frontière entre naturel et artificiel à travers les couleurs artificielles. Il photographie des objets aux teintes vives qui, tout en imitant la nature, jouent sur l’illusion, capturant des néons en forme de toiles d’araignées dans les rues japonaises. Grâce à une technique expérimentale, il altère les couleurs de ses photos grand format en utilisant les machines d’impression de l’usine familiale. Il décrit ce procédé comme une « chambre noire inversée » : il rince et frotte l'encre humide, retirant des couches par endroits pour obtenir une sorte de radiographie visuelle. Ces œuvres uniques, qui s’éloignent de toute représentation du réel, créent un monde où l’artificiel rivalise avec le vivant.
